The British alternative pop artist Ellysse Mason has had a buzz around her for sometime now with her uniquely flavoured music with profoundly moving lyrical melodies and her emotionally evocative vocal all creating a sonic soundscape that is near irresistible. As of late she’s been expanding her sonic universe by diving into a more 80’s pop influenced sound that is reminiscent of things you would expect to hear in The Breakfast Club soundtrack in the track we’re premiering today titled I Don’t Wanna Dance.
“It’s like when you’re at a party or in a club and the music is blaring and everyone is going at 100 miles an hour and shouting over each other,” Ellysse Mason explains. “You’re with someone, but you can’t connect with them in that environment. You just want to be alone with them, get on a train and run away somewhere you can be yourself.”
There’s an unbridled sense of joy and optimism that’s oozing out of this whilst also maintaining this subtle sombre nature that is kind of reminiscent of Robyn in Dancing On My Own. With a nostalgic production that makes you want to drive in a convertible down the coast with the wind blowing through your hair as her compelling vocal delivers the uplifting lyrics as we’re hit by a stellar hook that will be stuck in your head for weeks to come. This is an astronomical pop track that shows how Ellysse Mason is star in the making.
