Planespotting – Unforgettable ft. Figgy

-

If you’ve ever been to Bournemouth then you’ll know the idyllic scenes that the coastal resort town on the south coast of England has to offer. It’s the perfect summer getaway as with the picturesque beaches, blissful ocean air and peaceful vibes the city offers as the musician Planespotting soon figured out whilst experiencing the city for himself in the depths of summer, dwelling on the desire to remember the best memories and experiences he could have. However it wasn’t exactly this that inspired the Unforgettable, it was a quote from Kurt Vonnegut’s semi-autobiographical Timequake where the protagonist looks over a gorgeous view and says “If this ain’t nice, I don’t know what is.”

A wave of nostalgia washes over you as the laidback melodies and wonderful lyrics depicting a halcyon summer life transport you back to your own summer memories in an instant and that is what makes this track so utterly charming. It makes you appreciate the life you live and being alive in those moments where the world seemed to shine a little bit brighter and life felt so incredible. They might’ve been inspired by one quote in Timequake but Planespotting is 100% this quote from the novel, “a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit.”
