It’s been general knowledge for sometime that No Rome has worked closely with The 1975’s Matty Healy and George Daniel for his recently released debut EP RIP Indo Hisashi, Healy even once compared their collaborations to a sexual relationship. The closest we thought these two would collaborate was on No Rome’s previous track Do It Again, where Healy provided vocals, but luckily Healy heard the demo of Narcissist and asked to be featured on the record and we were gifted with this.
The track is the perfect mixture of both artists signature sounds taking No Rome’s soft electro-pop sound along with his shimmering synths and The 1975’s more impressionistic pop sound and their retro rhythms. One of my favourite moments is when No Rome croons the lyrics, “Stay in late I just want to get stoned, telling all your friends that I’m never at home,” the shimmer synth beats bring the haziness of the vocals to life and lift the track to a new level. The two artists work effortlessly together with neither trying to out-do the other or take over the track, they work in perfect harmony with one another.
“NO ROME AND ME AND GEORGE MADE A RECORD ITS WILD OMG SO GOOD,” – Matty Healy
