If you manage to captivate an audience with just your voice and a single instrument then you’re doing something incredibly right and that’s what I’m getting with the debut single from Joshua Bassett. The young singer songwriters hotly anticipated debut hasn’t disappointed with Common Sense being a sweet yet calming single that is hard not to smile at the more you listen.

What I find most appealing about this track though is the simplicity of it, there isn’t a big grand production filled with constant beats or hooks, there’s not powerful vocal display, it’s stripped to the bare minimum to get across the intimate nature of this story. It’s a track that gets across that relatable feeling of puppy love quite effortlessly and Bassett is able to convey this feeling easily through that honest vocal he has. Simple, effective and cuts through the noise of a lot of modern pop tunes.
