Out of all the acts that have had their debut in 2020 I honestly don’t think I’ve connected with an artist more than I have with the Irish Queer Pop quartet ELM. Their honest and relatable lyrics mixed with their effortless story telling ability left me consistently entranced and I found this comfort in their music that no other artist could really offer me in the past and for that I will always be eternally grateful to them.

Their debut single Fear left an impact on me the moment I heard those gorgeous electronics melt into the cello to create a divine atmosphere that is amplified by the energy of the vocal as well as the message of accepting who you are and who you love, something which is becoming more and more important with every passing day. Their follow up track Paris cemented their position as a future icon in my eyes with the track being inspired by the 1990 documentary “Paris is Burning” and still to this day I believe this song is the most relatable, honest and beautiful LGBTQ+ song I’ve ever heard.

Honestly this band are one of the best out there right now, they’ve released nothing but spellbinding pieces of music and I can see them ushering in a new era of Queer Pop, let’s hope it happens in 2020.
