Something that I’ve always loved is when artists release orchestral, unplugged or remakes of their music because we get to see their tracks in a whole new light and get to fall in love with them all over again. The British band KOKO released their sonically driven debut single Freak a few weeks ago and today they’ve dropped the unplugged version that turns it into a brooding dark pop track that is quite enthralling.
When you listen to the two tracks back to back it’s outstanding how different they are but also how they still get across that same message of them welcoming all the weirdos and freaks around the globe into their band’s little world. The unplugged version is emotionally evocative with the lyrics hitting you like the final blow in a prize winning fight, the production is outstanding with intimate feeling making you feel like these guys are performing in your living room and the vocals offering this emotional intensity that make this track the completely mesmerising piece that it is.
