May 24th is a date you’ll want to mark in your calendar as that is the day the Brooklyn based artist Pronoun will release her debut album I’ll Show You Stronger. We haven’t been shy about expressing our love for her in the past, her label (Sleep Well Records) has been thriving under her management and she became one of our Ones To Watch 2019 off the back of her stellar EP You Didn’t Even Make It To Bed.

Along with announcing her album she also dropped a new track called Stay which is about the moment a break up happens and the feelings that come from that. Pronoun’s evocative lyrics will certainly resonate with her listeners as they conjure an image in your mind of past break ups as she sings, “Here comes the deafening silence / I can hear every clock ticking / Wondering if you’re even sincere.” The frantic yet nostalgic production, consisting of a looping percussion section and fuzzy guitars, lends itself well to your mind after a break up as you reminisce about your time together then realise it won’t return and your mind can’t handle that so it becomes a cacophony of sound.

This track is probably the best representation of a realistic break up I’ve ever heard. It captures the emotional highs and lows of the moment along with the erratic events that follow and how you’re just hit with a deafening silence in the aftermath. Pronoun truly is an astounding artist and Stay proves this, we cannot wait for that debut album to come out, we’re certain it’s going to be something very special.
