It’s December now which means the season of Christmas songs can officially begin and where better start that with Phoebe Bridgers’ cover of McCarthy Trenching’s track Christmas Song featuring the vocals of singing and songwriting legend Jackson Browne. You really couldn’t get more from a Christmas song.

Whilst most Christmas songs have an inherent cheese surrounding them Christmas Song is different. It manages to capture the more depressing side of the festive season with the melancholy production, solemn piano melody, heart wrenching vocals and emotionally evoking lyrics that hit you with a wave of emotion.

Every part of this track creates a sorrowful ambience that cuts through the cliches of happy Christmas songs that come out this time of year and gives you a track to play when the joy of Christmas seems to fade.

“It’s not that often that I hear a Christmas song that doesn’t make me want to quit music.” – Phoebe Bridgers
