When a track starts off with someone lighting a cigarette before launching into a flawless falsetto, you know you’re in for something rather special. Los Angeles based artist Stefan James certainly knows how to open a track in style whilst also making sure the rest of the track is on par, if not better, than the opener.
The new voice of soul recently dropped Situation, his debut track that demonstrates the quality he possesses within his music. With a deep bass creating a dark atmosphere, slick guitar melodies, a hazy sound that makes you feel as if he’s singing it at a local club one night and sultry production that makes this track something mesmerising to hear. However there is a dark subtext with the lyrics focusing on James’ life that came from his past, with him losing a loved one and falling into substance abuse. Substance to a track that allows us to enter the soul of him and see the true power of his music.
“I’ve been there. When you’re feeling down, just put a couple of my songs on and cry or smile. Whatever you have to do to get through that moment. You’re not alone.” – Stefan James
