Coi Leray has already made an impression on many a music fan through her bombastic sound, killer lyrical delivery and ability to adapt to practically every genre you can think of. Her previous releases have already demonstrated her ability to perform fiery raps and deliver emotionally evocative in such ways that would make most veteran artists jealous of her talent. She’s a Gen-Z superstar in the making.
As buzz reaches a boiling point the budding star has released her debut EP to the world titled Now Or Never that demonstrates all that she is capable of doing in a mere 16 minutes. Speaking of the EP she commented, “There’s twerking music, pain music, some R&B, and some trap. I just want to give them something that is to my full potential. I want to take them to a place that they’ve never been before. It’s now or never, and the time is now.”
She’s not lying either, there’s something for everyone in this EP. Whether it be her collaboration with Sevyn Streeter and Kiana Ledé titled I Like It that feels like a modern day Destiny’s Child, genuinely I’d pay for an album of collaboration from these three, or the explosive rap number Do Better will have you hooked from start to finish with her bombastic delivery. There’s even more emotive numbers like Gunna that I could easily see soundtracking many teenagers late night crying sessions (probably mine as well if I am honest) and the same goes with Messy to an extent too.
The whole project showcases her musical evolution, emphasising her depth and range she is able to offer within her music. She’s a powerhouse musician with an innate songwriting talent that is incredibly impressive for an artist of her age. Many people have said that 2020 is the year of Coi Leray and, honestly, I fully understand why and I agree wholeheartedly with them.
