Still Pigeon – Sunday Roost

Be prepared to have your socks charmed off with the London based 5 piece alternative pop band Still Pigeon who dropped their debut EP Sunday Roost last Friday for us all to enjoy. It’s one of those projects that I stumbled across during one of my daily searches for new music and have been listening to on repeat ever since with their sound having this undeniable charm that reminiscent of Rex Orange County through the hazy melodies and airy vocals that leave me captivated from start to finish.

Throughout the EP there’s a unique dynamic that takes place with the minimalistic production carrying this lovely rhythm that adds a joyous energy to the piece whilst the vocals carry a more melancholy feels, juxtaposing that production effortlessly. Even on the more sombre numbers like Call it Night they still manage to inject a subtle uplifting nature to the piece, it’s a very tricky thing to do but they’ve made it seem as easy as breathing.

Each track has its own subtle flair that means no matter how many people you talk to who listen to this project, each one will have a different favourite song and reason why. Whether it’s the joyous feeling you get whilst listening to Old Self, the melancholy beauty of Carma or the infectious funk/indie rhythm of Crocodile Tears, there’s something for everyone. Dive into the EP and fall head over heels for this quintets sound, you won’t regret it!
