If you’re a fan of the revival of 80’s pop then you’re gonna want to check out ASHS (real name Alyssa Reid) and her darker brand on the sound. The best way do describing it is that Carly Rae Jepsen’s music is the 80’s family movie and ASHS is the 80’s horror thriller, two different ends of spectrum but both shine in their own individual way as is shown in her latest single Don’t Call Me.
I like the slightly sinister edge that comes from the dark synths mixed with the more euphoria inducing melody, it strikes a unique balance that eloquently shows you what is so compelling about her sound. Her signature smoky vocals shine throughout as they soar over the lushly opaque backdrop whilst she belts out the lyrics that show off the raw jagged edges of her new music. Pop doesn’t get much better than this.
