Upbeat and happy aren’t two words you’d usually see associated with the word break-up because usually the songs written about this focus on the more depressing side of a relationship ending, but that’s why MarthaGunn are here as they flip convention on its head. In their latest single It’s Over they focus on how sometimes the end of something can actually the best thing for you in the long run.

I’m not one to stick around in an unhappy relationship,” Frontwoman for the band Abi Woodman explains. “I can’t help but think that a lot of us are probably stuck in a situation we’d rather not be in. It took me a while, but when I realised my self-worth my expectations became higher. Following my heart and finding freedom and happiness is something I will never regret. This led me to writing It’s Over. For a change I wanted to make an upbeat, happy sounding song about a breakup. Because sometimes it’s the best thing that can happen to you.”

This is a track that you’ll end up grabbing singing in your bedroom late at night whilst grabbing your hairbrush and acting like you’re giving your own personal concert to your bedroom audience. It just has an infectious quality to it that comes through that gleeful guitar melody and summery beats that echo the happiness she is expressing through her vocal about finally getting away from someone who has caused her so much grief. It’s a break-up anthem for sure, but it stands out from the crowd and is for all those nights where you’re celebrating that you’re finally free!
