Bristol based trio KOKO might’ve only released one song this year but they’re already looking like one of the most exciting acts to come out of England in recent years. Having first met in their hometown Oliver Garland (vocals) Harry Dobson (bass, synth) and Ashley C (synths, lead guitar) have grown up together and developed a sound together that continually entices me to listen to their debut over and over again.

Freak is a has a pulsating rhythm that would turn any dead and boring club into something that is teaming with life with the throbbing synth beats making you want to groove along to the melody easily. Then you’ve got the lyrics which the band explain as an, “FU to the man!. We’re telling you to be whoever, or whatever, you want. Embrace individuality.” The unplugged version then amplifies that message further with the sparse production sending shivers down my spine with every listen.

I’ve got high hopes for this Bristol based act and fully believe that KOKO are going to come out and fully represent the Freaks of the world in 2020.
