An artist’s debut is the most important song that they will ever release as it introduces their sound to the world and is the first time most people will ever hear of them. All I can say is that if Teddi Gold’s debut is anything to go by then I am going to become a lifelong fan because this is one of the happiest pieces of music I’ve heard in a long time.
Speaking about her debut Gold had this to say, “Inspiration for the song started quite literally with my boyfriend constantly playing video games. Taking this example as a starting point it made me question the broader relationship we have to technology and how addictive it is, how it takes us out of the present moment with the people who are right in front of us. *I will note that I actually now love the game Zelda!!”
Video Games has a buoyant productions featuring glitch like synths that are reminiscent of Owl City in his heyday along with these little video game references throughout such as the death sound in Snake, a jump sound from Mario and more that all offer this sense of nostalgia. Gold’s voice fits perfectly within the electronic production with her vocal having an animated appeal blends effortlessly and just manages to make me smile from ear to ear throughout. Merge that together with the punchy chorus and a single artwork that is filled with character and you’ve got an outstanding debut.
Perky, energetic and filled with character Video Games is an outstanding debut from Teddi Gold that just puts a smile on your face. If you’re having a bad day then this is the track for you.
