Back in 2015 KYKO was one my favourite upcoming artists with his debut EP Animals being one of my most listened to EP’s of the year, I still find myself going back to it every now and again. He then signed a record deal with Warner Music before going quiet, performing the odd festival, then this Friday he dropped a new single and announced his name change. KYKO is no more, long live the legendary Kwassa!
Now going to a big label can sometimes be a hindrance to an artist but that doesn’t seem to be the case with Kwassa who is thriving with Moonwalking. The track is filled with these warm infectious synths that makes you feel like you’re in the tropics, a luscious melody that you’ll be humming along to after a few listens and the build up to the chorus is simply sublime. There is no other way to describe it other than indie pop at its finest.
Then you’ve got the music video to go along with it that features the use of a gorgeous yellow and blue colour palette and a few wonderful dance breaks thrown in for good measure. All these visuals compliment the song perfectly and makes you just want to rewatch it over and over again.
Although he’s been away for a while Kwassa has returned in absolute style with a track that is sure to brighten anyones day and put a smile on your face. Sublime, simply sublime.
