London based artist Plested (Philip Plested) first caught our attention as a member of the folk pop duo Chasing Grace. Now over the past year he has steadily been releasing music with stripped back lyrically beautiful tracks like Lost For Words and the full-scale folk pop anthems like Back Up Plan, showing his versatility and his ability to stand out as a true solo artist. Now he’s released what might be my favourite of track of his to date.

The folk based track Ribcage focuses on how we all build up walls to block others out and keep ourselves safe but sometime we need someone to break it down. The lyrics are ones that people who do try to hide their feelings from the world can easily connect with, especially the chorus with, “Well that’s why they call it a ribcage, To lock all of my feelings up,” being a very poignant lyric for anyone who experiences these problems. With a tender atmosphere created by the gentle plucking of a guitar and the gruff vocals of Plested cutting through to allow for a unique dynamic and then the chorus where hard hitting drums and high flying vocals tear through this to create an exhilarating feel that carries through to the end.
