In 2019 CELIIN debuted her emotional pop sound through Leonardo that also introduced us to her Filthy Glamour Universe (move over Marvel Cinematic Universe) and got me invested into this story. Today she’s released Nasty Human, the second track from her string of love letters, where she goes for a more sinister side, showcasing the sinister side all humans have in them.
Anxiety, fear, tension, nerves, all these feelings are expressed effortlessly to capture that fear of having your dirty little secret being exposed to the world. The vocals offer this high sense of theatrical drama with CELIIN hitting these dizzying high notes that are reminiscent of Florence Welch whilst also managing to maintain a strong sense of emotional resonance throughout the single too. This single looks at the side of humanity we usually don’t like to discuss but CELIIN makes it feel like a pure joy.
