Akine – Lighthouse

Ukrainian singer songwriter Akine has always worn her heart on her sleeve when it comes to her music. She’s never been afraid or too shy to reflect on her own personal battles and resentment to the current state of the world around her through her evocative lyricisms and natural storytelling ability where she’s been able to weave subject matters like religion, civil war and identity all into her enthralling sound. The young artist on world mental health day also shared a genuine message of empathy and bravery that detailed her own battle with anxiety and self-esteem issues, something which effects many of her fans.

These insecurities she’s experienced is what lead her to writing Lighthouse. Through the deep pitch black darkness, remorseless storms and treacherous waves that make our mind a cacophony to experience, you’ll find there’s always a light in the distance guiding you back to home soil. It might seem like a long way to go and the journey will be hard, but when you get there it’s the best feeling in the world. Akine gets across all of this and more through her lyrics, which are pure poetry, and fervent vocal where the emotion comes cascading down upon you like a tsunami as the brooding production of jarring synths and grand beats sets the eery tone for, what is, a rather spellbinding track.

Speaking about the track Akine said, “I wrote “Lighthouse’ at a time when I was overwhelmed with insecurities and felt so out of place in my surroundings. I hope that anyone who feels like I did will hear this and remember that they aren’t alone, and there are always ways out of bad situations.”
