Arlo Parks – Hurt

-

In terms of storytelling there aren’t many better than the high-rising musician Arlo Parks who’s lyrics convey an unadulterated amount of emotion that she paints a picture in your mind with every poetically poignant lyric adding to a different brush stroke to the picture until the very end where you’re left with a masterpiece. She’s already done it countless times throughout her career and today she’s done it again with her latest jazz tinged single Hurt which offers a more uplifting take on the aftermath of emotional pain.

“‘Hurt’ surrounds the possibility of healing from pain and the temporary nature of suffering,” Parks begins to explain. “It is supposed to uplift and comfort those going through hard times.”

The track manages to find a striking balance between the somber production and uplifting lyricisms, focusing on the hope of healing from the pain mixed with the suffering we are currently experiencing. Park’s ethereal vocals gently dance over the production whilst delivering lyrics like, “I know you can’t let go of anything at the moment/ Just know that it won’t hurt so much forever,” with such a delicate styling that they begin to make a connection almost instantly. This young musician is already thriving and there’s no doubt in my mind she’s going to continue her meteoric rise to the top and continually release music that will soundtrack many lives to come.
