LØLØ channels pop punk glory with classic pop hooks in “Hate U”

We all love a good break up anthem, those tracks we can play through the speakers in our room crying our eyes out during the early stage before belting it out on daily basis as a way of empowering ourselves and LØLØ does that effortlessly with her latest single Hate U. Sometimes when something we want so badly just won’t happen it feels better to channel that energy into hating everything about that person to make ourselves feel better, as LØLØ explains below:

Human nature has always got us thinking about things we want, and know we can’t have…why are we like this? There’s nothing worse than trying to ignore those feelings, especially when you’ve fallen for someone you’re not supposed to fall for. We blame it on the universe and shitty timing. We blame late nights and too much alcohol. In the end, we’re just looking for a bandaid—anything to make us feel better about it. In my situation, I wanted to feel something with this person, but love just wasn’t an option, so the only thing left to do was to channel all those feelings into absolutely hating them, and convincing myself that what I was feeling was never love in the first place. Hate U is the anthem for all us sorry suckers that never end up getting what we want.

The candid lyricisms make it feel like a personal diary entry where each word feels so personal and honest that you feel like LØLØ is sitting down confessing all these feelings to you as a close friend. There’s an emotional edge to the production as well with the pop punk styled guitar melodies mixed with the classic pop synths and Y2K influenced styling that breathes new life into the lyrical story unfolding before your eyes. Whether it be a crying session or singing in your bedroom into your hairbrush, let this soundtrack your breakup.
