I love those moments where you stumble across an artist by pure chance and realise you’ve found someone who is utterly mesmerising in every way possible, well I got to experience that recently when I heard Kalisway for the first time. Genuinely she has one of the best vocals around, the way she’s able to hit these dizzying high notes with absolute ease and create slick funk productions to amplify her vocal further is rather special and her latest release Durag is a prime example of all this.
“Durag was one of those ideas I came up with while I was putting on my actual durag” Kalisway begins to explain. “I sang it super playful and felt it could be a relatable tune. It makes me feel confident, fun and strong all in one, and I wanted to keep those emotions prevalent in the final craft. Keeping the freshness and raw ideas that I had from the start creating Durag was important, but so was living it up with colorful chords and energy and I know Durag is full of just that!“
Vocally this is second to none, I can’t remember the last time I heard a vocal that has had such an impact me like her’s and that is one of the biggest compliments I can give to any artist.
