Nina Simone, J Cole, John Coltrane, what do all these people have in common? They’re all extremely talented musicians from North Carolina and it looks like State Of The Secretary (otherwise known as Isaac Anderson) is going to be added to this list with his stunning single Toxic which was recorded entirely on analog tape. That alone should get you listening to this piece ASAP.

This song is the definition of raw and honest with it being very reminiscent of the Grunge movement during the 90s, I’d actually go as far to say this would’ve probably been a hit if it was released in that era. Then you’ve got the lyrics that are quite country like actually with the fact that they use honesty and sincerity in them to craft a beautifully written and poignant story.

However the highlight of this track is actually the flaws. With analog recording the music would always have these little errors and mistakes that actually added to the charm of the track and that’s exactly what this piece has. It’s not polished, it’s not clean, it’s not manufactured. All it is is 100% raw human emotion condensed into a four minute long track that creates an instant connection.
